Welcome

Welcome to my traveler's journal!
Speaking of the Place Glacier hike in the last post, Courtney recently finished throwing together a video of us on the trail. It was a greuling climb, located a half hour northeast of Pemberton, that took us nearly six hours to complete! Once we made it to the top, we were greeted by a rather severe change in weather :S. It was quite an exciting climb, so of course she made the video as epic as possible. Please check it out!

Travel on the horizon

So after graduating from Capilano with my BBA and gaining over a years  experience at New-Line Hose and Fittings, I've come to the decision that this is the time in my life when I need to go out and see the world!

It's time for me to get all of my loose ends tied up and get some cash together for a plane ticket to New Zealand. It will take some serious discipline to adhere to a strict budget in order to get my visa and required safety net in place, but I definitely think I can accomplish it within 1-1.5 months.

This will definitely be a working / backpacking excursion, and I wouldn't have it any other way! During the last summer months I gained valuable hiking experience on trails that vary from the leisurely wandering paths of Chekamaus Lake, to the extreme slopes and weather of Place Glacier.

Wish me luck!

Old Material

Below this point you will see a few older posts from when this page was my student e-portfolio. I could remove the content, but I like keeping the memories!  So I apologize for the old clutter.

China Field School!

Last spring, I had the opportunity to register for the pilot class of a new international business course offered by Capilano. We spent three weeks in four different cities working with university students, attending lectures, and experiencing as much of chinese culture as we could. It was fantastic.

Some of the main highlights of the trip were:
  • Visiting the famous financial district in Shanghai
  • Touring the downtown core, and the beautiful "west Lake" park in Hangzhou
  • Touring a Toyota motor vehicles manufacturing plant in Tianjin
  • Exploring the Forbidden City and the Great Wall in Beijing
My class was also invited to a networking event for BC alumni which was hosted at the British Columbia Canada Pavilion in Beijing, which is literally a few yards away from Tiananmen Square. It was here that I met Minister Colin Hansen, and our premiere, Gordon Campbell .

Ever wanted to donate to a starving college student?

Now is your chance! Donate as much or as little as you like to help out a student in need.

Haha. This was just an in-class exercise for my e-business analysis and admin course. We had to demonstrate that we knew how to make online transactions, which is, of course, essential to having a sccessful online business that uses a traditional revenue model. I posted this link which will accept transactions through paypal; much more simple than setting up a merchant account with the local bank to accept VISA or Mastercard payments.

Previous Work

Just to start the ball rolling, I'd like to mention a group project from my Advertising class last semester.

The assignment was to create a complete mock-up advertising campaign for a large corporation. Our entire class was split up into teams, each required to produce an innovative marketing strategy for a different client. Our team chose Cypress Mountain. After completion, all teams had to pitch the plan to their "client" (a panel of judges comprised of several instructors and a few media experts) with hopes of them signing on. This was a full competition, with an automatic 100% mark for the final exam up for grabs.

The results: We won!

Our team was decided to have the most creative pitch, and was awarded near full marks for the project and an exemption from the final exam. :D

I'll have the project posted for viewing as soon as I get permission from my other team mates.
